Singapore Visa for Australians: 2026 Entry Guide

Short answer: Australians do not need a visa for Singapore. You receive a 30-day social visit pass on arrival automatically, at no cost.

Singapore is one of the easiest countries in the world for Australians to visit — no visa application, no fees, no advance paperwork beyond the online arrival card. What follows covers the entry requirements in full, what to expect at immigration, and how to extend your stay if needed.

Visa-Free Entry for Australians

Australia is on Singapore's visa-exempt list. Australian passport holders are granted a 30-day Social Visit Pass on arrival at no charge. This is stamped in your passport by the immigration officer. There is no prior application, no form to submit at the airport, and no payment required at immigration.

The Social Visit Pass covers: tourism, visiting friends and family, short-duration business meetings and conferences (not employment or paid work). It does not permit you to work, study for more than 30 days, or remain longer than the stamped period without extension.

SG Arrival Card: Your Only Pre-Arrival Step

Since Singapore discontinued the paper disembarkation card, all visitors must complete the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) online before arriving. Submit it through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority website (ica.gov.sg) or the MyICA mobile app within 3 days before your arrival date. It takes approximately 5 minutes. You will receive an acknowledgment email — save this on your phone for reference, though Singapore immigration does not typically request to see it.

The SGAC asks for: your passport details, flight information, intended accommodation in Singapore, and health declarations. It does not require you to declare the purpose of every planned activity — a general tourism or visiting-friends declaration is sufficient.

What to Expect at Singapore Changi Airport Immigration

Changi Airport is consistently rated the world's best airport. Singapore immigration is fast, professional, and rarely problematic for Australian visitors. Automated immigration lanes (using biometric passport scanning) are available for eligible visitors, bypassing the manual officer queue entirely. The Changi Airport Singapore website lists which passport types are eligible for the automated lanes.

Manual immigration lanes: approach the officer, present your passport (open at your photo page), have your onward ticket accessible on your phone if asked. The officer will stamp your passport with the 30-day pass. The full process takes under 3 minutes at non-peak hours.

Passport Requirements

Your Australian passport must be: valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Singapore (strictly enforced — passengers have been denied boarding in Australia for insufficient passport validity). In good condition — significantly damaged passports can trigger additional scrutiny. A machine-readable passport (all current Australian passports are machine-readable). A second blank page for the entry stamp.

Customs: What to Declare

Singapore Customs is strict on specific categories. Declare at the Red Channel if you are carrying:

Chewing gum for personal medicinal use is permitted with a doctor's prescription and declaration — recreational chewing gum is prohibited.

Extending Your Stay Beyond 30 Days

Extensions of the Social Visit Pass are processed at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority Service Centre (10 Kallang Road). Bring your passport, proof of accommodation, evidence of sufficient funds, and a reason for extension. Extensions are typically approved for an additional 30 days (total 60-day stay) for SGD 40. They are not automatic — ICA assesses each application. Apply before your current pass expires.

Working in Singapore as an Australian

The Social Visit Pass does not permit employment. Australians seeking to work in Singapore require an Employment Pass (EP), issued by the Ministry of Manpower Singapore. As of 2025, EP minimum qualifying salary is SGD 5,600/month for new applications in most sectors. The EP application is submitted by the employing Singapore-registered company, not by the individual. Processing takes 3–8 weeks.

Practical Notes for Australian Visitors

Currency: Australian dollars are not widely accepted. Exchange to Singapore dollars (SGD) at Changi Airport money changers (competitive rates), Mustafa Centre (open 24 hours), or money changers at People's Park Complex in Chinatown. Major credit cards are accepted widely at hotels, malls, and larger restaurants. Hawker centres and small shops typically prefer cash or local e-payment. The MRT guide covers getting into the city from Changi.

The Singapore hawker centre guide is the best starting point for understanding where and how to eat. The heat guide covers the climate adjustment that surprises most Australian visitors.
