Monthly Climate Guide

From a local who has lived here 40 years
What to Pack for Singapore
☀️ Heat & Humidity (always)
Light, breathable cotton or linen — not synthetics that trap heat
Sunscreen SPF 50+ minimum — UV index is Extreme year-round
Sunglasses — strong equatorial sun even through clouds
Cap or hat — direct sun between 10 AM and 4 PM is intense
Water bottle — dehydration happens quickly at 85% humidity
🌧️ Rain (every day, possibly)
Compact folding umbrella — not a poncho, too hot to wear
Waterproof sandals or shoes — soaked socks for the rest of the day is unpleasant
Avoid scheduling outdoor activities at 2–4 PM — peak afternoon thunderstorm window
Rain lasts 20–40 minutes usually — duck into a hawker centre and wait
Light waterproof jacket if visiting during November–January (wettest months)
❄️ Air-Conditioning (aggressive)
Singapore buildings are extremely cold inside — 18–20°C in malls and offices
Bring a light cardigan or scarf for restaurants, cinemas and MRT
The temperature contrast between outside (32°C) and inside (18°C) causes colds
Layers matter more than warmth — you will change between climates all day
💡 Local Planning Tips
Best outdoor time: 7–10 AM and 6–8 PM — cooler, less UV
Gardens by the Bay and outdoor attractions: early morning only in June–August
Hawker centres: fan-cooled is fine. No air-con needed for eating.
November–January: carry an umbrella every day, no exceptions
Footwear: slip-on sandals are practical. Closed shoes get soaked and stay wet.
