“Hire a local” usually means one of two things: you want someone to show you around, or you want someone who actually knows the place to answer your questions honestly. This advisory does the second — and does it better precisely because there's no tour to sell you.
What hiring a local actually gets you
- The skip list. Every guidebook tells you what to see. A local tells you what isn't worth your limited days — and no sponsored publication can print that. Our Honest Index rates every major attraction Worth It, Worth It If, or Skip It, free.
- Timing that only locals hold. The 11:15am chicken-rice window before the 12:30 queue wave. Blue hour fifteen minutes after sunset, not at sunset. The 9–12–4–5 heat rhythm that turns one exhausting day into two good halves.
- Answers while you travel. “It's pouring — now what?” is a question no document answers. A real person on WhatsApp does.
- The honest no. If your plan is already good, or the free guides would serve you better, you'll be told so before you pay.
Why we don't run tours
In-person guiding in Singapore is a licensed activity, and it's a different business: routes, schedules, group pace. We chose the advisory model instead because the value we can add is judgement rather than company — and because a business that sells tours can never quite tell you that a famous attraction isn't worth your afternoon. Not selling tours is what makes the honesty possible.
Three ways to hire a local here
| If you want… | Then |
|---|---|
| A conversation | A 30-minute video consultation — your dates, your questions, honest answers including what to skip. |
| A plan you can follow | A written day-by-day trip plan, delivered in about 48 hours. See a real one → |
| A local on call while you travel | Per-trip-week WhatsApp access for on-ground judgement calls, replies within a few hours during Singapore waking hours. |

Frequently asked questions
Can I hire a local guide in Singapore?
You can hire licensed tour guides for in-person tours, and you can hire an advisory like this one for a local's judgement without a tour. We deliberately don't run in-person tours: we sell knowledge — written plans, video consultations and WhatsApp access — so you explore independently with a local's answers rather than following an umbrella.
How much does it cost to hire a local in Singapore?
Every price is published on the shop page, from a short digital field guide through consultations and written plans to full trip design. There are no quotes and no discovery calls needed to find out what something costs.
What's the difference between a tour guide and a local advisor?
A guide walks you through a route on a schedule. An advisor answers the questions that decide your whole trip: which neighbourhood to stay in, which famous attraction to skip, where the queue is worth twenty minutes, what to do when it rains. One is a few hours of company; the other shapes every day you have.
Can I just ask a local a question about Singapore?
Yes. Send your situation on WhatsApp and you'll get an honest answer about which service fits — including when the free guides will serve you better than anything paid. For an actual conversation, the 30-minute video consultation is the entry point; for questions during your trip, there's a per-week WhatsApp access product.
Are you a licensed tour guide?
No, and deliberately so — we don't conduct tours. This is a travel and relocation advisory: written plans, consultations and coordination. That distinction is why we can be honest about attractions no tour would ever tell you to skip.
