Why this works from Perth and nowhere else
The maths is unfair to the rest of the country: five hours in the air, same timezone (SGT and AWST are identical year-round), and evening departures both ways. Leave Perth Friday morning, land for a hawker lunch; leave Singapore Monday night, be at your desk Tuesday. No body-clock tax at either end. Melbourne can't do that with anywhere.
The Friday-to-Monday, hour by honest hour
Friday: land, tap your contactless card at the MRT gate (no tourist card needed — the getting-around guide explains the system in two minutes), drop bags in Chinatown. Late lunch at Maxwell Food Centre, shophouse wander as the heat breaks, sunset drinks on Ann Siang Hill, satay at Lau Pa Sat by night.
Saturday: the icon day — Gardens by the Bay early (Cloud Forest first, it's air-conditioned), midday retreat to the National Gallery or a long lunch, Marina Bay waterfront and the free Garden Rhapsody light show after dark.
Sunday: the local day. Tiong Bahru market breakfast, Kampong Gelam's Sultan Mosque and Haji Lane, Little India by late afternoon when it's at its most vivid, banana-leaf dinner at Tekka. This is the day people come back raving about.
Monday: slow kaya-toast breakfast, one revisit or the Botanic Gardens before the heat, airport by late afternoon — leaving time for Jewel's waterfall on the way out.
What it costs, in Perth terms
Your beer will cost Northbridge prices or worse; almost everything else undercuts home. Hawker meals at S$4–8 (A$5–9), MRT rides under S$2.50, and the best free-attraction layer of any city in Asia — the full breakdown is in the budget guide. A couple can do the weekend well on A$150–200 a day on the ground, dominated by the hotel.
Upgrading the weekend
A long weekend has zero recovery time for a wrong turn — which is exactly what a 30-minute Ask a Local call (SGD 90, about A$105) before you fly is for: your dates, your tastes, the queue-dodging order to do it all in. Everything else Australians ask is on the Singapore for Australians page — including the east-coast stopover playbook if your next trip routes through Changi anyway.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Singapore from Perth?
About 5 hours' flying time, with daily directs on Singapore Airlines, Scoot and Qantas. Singapore Standard Time equals Perth time year-round — no time difference at all, which is why a 3–4 day trip works here and nowhere else in Asia.
Is a 3-day trip to Singapore worth it?
From Perth, absolutely. Zero jet lag means all three days are full days. Three days covers a heritage neighbourhood, the Marina Bay set pieces, one big nature or family attraction, and six to eight excellent meals — which is the real reason to come.
How much does a Singapore long weekend cost from Perth?
Flights swing widely — Scoot sales can be very cheap; book early for school-holiday weekends. On the ground, budget S$60–90 (A$70–105) per person per day eating at hawker centres and using the MRT, or S$180+ with restaurants and paid attractions daily. Accommodation is the biggest variable: hostels from S$40, solid mid-range from S$180–250.
